It’s Not Just Activism—It’s Queer Leadership

Taking a stand for 2SLGBTQIA+ justice while sustaining your well-being, convictions, and voice.

“It’s too much to deal with. Someone else needs to take on this fight for Queer Rights.”

What nonsense! That excuse only gives more power to those working against 2SLGBTQIA+ rights and freedoms.

Time for a reality slap:

If you don’t stand up for yourself, someone who dislikes you is going to push you down.

Let’s be clear: billionaire funded conservative and religious organizations and high-profile media individuals don’t just want to restrict and remove your rights, some of them want to erase us from existence.

Right now, it’s imperative to our existence, freedom, and well-being that every single 2SLGBTQIA+ person takes a stand and breaks the silence.

This could be as small as letting someone know that their comments or jokes are inappropriate. You may not have the perfect words, but instead of letting the injustice slide, you spoke up.

Or this could be a bigger move, like convincing management that they need to publicly support an ethical issue. Otherwise, they’re going to lose market share and key stakeholders.

Don’t get me wrong. This is not a post about starting a fight.

Instead, it’s a message about learning WHEN you must take a stand for your rights, freedoms, and visibility, and HOW to do that effectively based on your skills and strengths, not your fears.

Maybe you prefer to work behind the scenes, crunching data, organizing files, coordinating email or text blasts, or advising others on communication and strategy.

That’s an extremely unique and necessary set of skills that can support the in-your-face activist or public-facing change-maker who is a natural at public speaking, listening, and conflict resolution.

Whether your stand is subtle or systemic, it matters. And when we all work together, we can and will make an impact.

As I wrote earlier this week,

“If you’re openly queer and in a leadership position, you don’t get to sit this one out.”

This message is for 2SLGBTQIA+ leaders who refuse to stay quiet while their dignity and rights are under attack.

Here’s the thing:

Thinking critically, challenging social norms, and taking a stand for equal rights, dignity, and freedom is not just activism—it is essential to queer leadership.

You also need a supportive community so you don’t burn out or give up hope, and have an outlet to share and work with other change-makers and champions of humanity.

But if you’re silencing yourself, second-guessing your convictions, overwhelmed by which cause to support, or totally overwhelmed, you’re unable to function and lead at your best.

That’s where direct support can make all the difference.

For the next month, until September 26, I’m offering 20 free one-on-one Queer Leadership Strategy Calls on a first come, first served basis.
